Competitions - Learn to Compete in Dance, Poise, Technique, Costume & More!
Competition Team
Competitions give dancers a fantastic opportunity to perform and receive critiques. The performances are done in front of a panel of judges, usually professional dancers, teachers and/or studio owners. Though the panel usually consists of three judges, on occasion there may be a fourth judge. Usually, a fourth judge is designated to present specialty awards such as "Excellence in Technique", "Beautiful Costume" or "Great Smile".
At Fabulous Feet Dance Center, we recognize that today's dancers are incredibly versatile, engaging in a variety of activities from clubs and sports to early college preparation during high school. We've tailored our approach to accommodate these commitments by offering flexible rehearsal options. Missed rehearsals can be rescheduled on Fridays (when FFDC is closed for classes), Saturdays before or after regular sessions, and during school holidays. Additionally, Ms. Robyn is often available on Sundays to accommodate additional or makeup lessons for our competitive dancers.
For those seeking one-on-one guidance, private lessons with an FFDC teacher are available at regular rates. We also provide complimentary use of our dance rooms during non-peak hours. Ms. Robyn frequently hosts open rehearsals at no charge on Sundays preceding competitions.
While we cherish the camaraderie of competition groups, we've noticed that many of our students prefer solos, duos, and trios. This preference simplifies scheduling and aligns seamlessly with their other extracurricular activities. We strive to make participation accessible by offering options such as using recital costumes, cost-conscious purchases, and the reuse or borrowing of competition costumes over two years. Families also have the option to embellish costumes themselves.
At FFDC, our competitors play an integral role in shaping their routines. They have a say in selecting music, genre, costume materials, and collaborating with choreographers. We believe in transparency and do not charge choreography fees; instead, fees are based solely on the time spent with our staff and dancers. Should a dancer request an external choreographer, fees are paid directly to them, and lessons can be conducted at our studio or the choreographer's location.
At FFDC, we strive to help our dancers reach their performance goals. We also ensure that our dancers understand professional competitions are contests AND a wonderful learning tool. Should any of our Dancers not achieve the ranking they had hoped for, we work a little harder for the next event.
